A 1.5-hour sommelier-led tasting of five Hungarian wines from native grapes, paired with local cheeses and cured meats in a 19th-century cellar.
Learn about Hungary's wine and food culture from a resident sommelier at the Tasting Table Cellar, a 19th-century wine cellar with vaulted ceilings in Budapest's 8th district. You taste five glasses of wine made from indigenous Hungarian grape varieties, including some that are hard to find outside the country. They are paired with four cheeses and four cured meats, such as beef sausage, smoked duck breast, free-range water buffalo salami and Mangalica pork sausage, along with fresh bread and mineral water. Your sommelier explains how artisanal cheese and charcuterie came back after the end of the Communist era. Seating is at communal tables. You get a tasting sheet for notes and a map of Hungary's wine regions to take home.
